Overview
The Somali is a long-haired Abyssinian, with the same ticked coat and fox-like appearance but with a flowing mane and bushy tail. They're incredibly active, curious, and playful—often called 'fox cats' for their appearance and clever personality.
Health
Somalis share Abyssinian health concerns: Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), and renal amyloidosis. Dental issues are also common. Genetic testing is available for many conditions. Lifespan is 12-16 years.
Care & Grooming
Their medium-length coat needs brushing 2-3 times weekly to prevent matting. They need lots of play, climbing space, and mental stimulation. Puzzle feeders are great. They don't do well alone—consider getting two.
