Temperament
Overview
The Selkirk Rex has a distinctive curly coat—both guard hairs and undercoat are curled, giving them a 'sheepcat' appearance. Unlike other Rex breeds, they're stocky and have a laid-back, patient temperament. They come in both longhair and shorthair varieties.
Health
Selkirk Rex can be prone to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) due to Persian/British Shorthair ancestry. Some may develop hip dysplasia. Regular health screenings are recommended.
Care & Grooming
Their curly coat needs regular brushing to prevent matting—more for longhairs. Don't over-groom as it can straighten the curls. They're relaxed cats who enjoy cuddles. Not as active as other Rex breeds but still enjoy play.
