Temperament
Overview
The Oriental Shorthair is essentially a Siamese in a rainbow of colors and patterns—over 300 combinations! With their large ears, almond eyes, and sleek body, they're strikingly elegant. Like their Siamese cousins, they're extremely vocal and form intense bonds with their humans.
Health
Orientals can be prone to Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), liver amyloidosis, and heart issues. Some may develop asthma or bronchial disease. They're also prone to dental issues. Regular vet visits and dental care are important.
Care & Grooming
Their short coat needs minimal grooming. However, they need lots of attention and mental stimulation—they get depressed if ignored. Provide puzzle feeders, interactive toys, and plenty of playtime. They do best with a companion cat or very attentive owner.
