Temperament
Overview
The Ocicat looks wild with their spotted coat but is entirely domestic—a mix of Siamese, Abyssinian, and American Shorthair. They're confident, outgoing, and dog-like in their devotion. Many can be trained to fetch, walk on a leash, and respond to commands.
Health
Ocicats can be prone to liver or renal amyloidosis (inherited from Siamese/Abyssinian). Some may develop Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) or Progressive Retinal Atrophy. Generally healthy with 12-18 year lifespans.
Care & Grooming
Their short, spotted coat needs only weekly brushing. They're highly social and need companionship—they do well with other pets. Provide lots of interactive play and puzzle toys. They can be trained like dogs with positive reinforcement.
