Temperament
Overview
The Norwegian Forest Cat, or 'Wegie,' is a natural breed from Scandinavia built for harsh winters. With their thick double coat, tufted ears, and bushy tail, they're perfectly adapted to cold climates. These gentle giants are independent yet affectionate with their families.
Health
Norwegian Forest Cats can be prone to Glycogen Storage Disease IV (GSD IV), Hip Dysplasia, and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Reputable breeders test for these conditions. They're generally healthy cats with lifespans of 14-16 years.
Care & Grooming
Their thick double coat needs brushing 2-3 times weekly, daily during shedding season. They're natural climbers and need tall cat trees. Despite their wild appearance, they adapt well to indoor living. Keep them mentally stimulated with puzzle toys.
