Overview

The Abyssinian is one of the oldest known cat breeds, with a distinctive 'ticked' coat that gives them a wild appearance. Often called the 'Aby,' they're incredibly active, curious, and intelligent. These cats are natural athletes who love to climb and explore everything.

Health

Abyssinians can be prone to Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKD), Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), and renal amyloidosis. Dental issues are also common. Genetic testing is available for many conditions. With proper care, they live 12-15 years.

Care & Grooming

Their short, ticked coat needs minimal grooming. However, they need lots of play and mental stimulation—puzzle feeders are great. Provide tall cat trees and high perches. They don't do well left alone and may become destructive if bored.
